Purchasing Manager

Salary up to £45,000pa (dependant on experience)

Location: Swindon, Wiltshire (commutable from Chippenham, Bristol, Salisbury, Bath, Avon, Gloucester)


Ambridge Harris is delighted to be supporting their Wiltshire based client with recruiting a Purchasing Manager on a Permanent basis.

The main purpose of the Purchasing Manager role is to manage the worldwide procurement of products with focus being to develop the depth and breadth of a sustainable ground portfolio for the business. You will be required to create and maintain strong contractual relationships with key suppliers ensuring a good mix of both competitive and exclusive rate agreements.

Key responsibilities will include;

  • Creating and managing the annual briefing and contracting timetable with the Product teams.
  • Developing and maintaining key supplier relationships with jointly agreed vision and strategy agreements that are regularly reviewed. Nurturing agreements to negotiate industry leading rates and unique products...
  • Maintaining and agreeing processes with the Operational team to ensure contracted products are operationally viable and provide an excellent customer experience.
  • Reviewing customer feedback and looking at ways to improve ground products and the customer experience with the product and service team. Managing any customer complaint escalations and drive compensation recovery where appropriate from suppliers.
  • Understanding pricing strategy, margins and volumes associated with each contracted product
  • Reviewing supplier performance and highlight any contractual risks to the Director team
  • Ensuring strong and robust department processes are in place for contract filing, version controls, liability risk reviews and deadline achievement.

The ideal candidate will need;

  • To have proven background as a Purchasing Manager role with experience within the Travel Sector
  • A strategic approach with commercial awareness
  • To be able to evidence great contracting and negotiating skills
  • To have the ability to build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers
  • To work well as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills; working in a professional manner at all levels with both external and internal suppliers/customers.
  • Great numeracy skills
  • Great analytical skills and the ability to relay complex information in a concise way
  • To be able to work well under pressure, and cope with the demands of deadlines and targets
  • To maintain great attention to detail.
  • Excellent IT skills; Microsoft Office (Excel / Word) to intermediate level.
  • To be able to evaluate bids/tenders and make recommendations as required
